a Special Convocation held to felicitate Prof. C. N. R. Rao, Bharat Ratna and internationally-acclaimed scientific researcher. Governor, N. N. Vohra, Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar, Minister for Health & Medical Education, Ch. Lal Singh, Minister of State for H&ME, Asiya Naqash, Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir, Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, besides senior Government Officers and VCs of various universities were present on the occasion. The Chief Minister, in his address, congratulated Prof. Rao and thanked him for accepting the Degree of Doctor of Science (HonorisCausa) from the University of Kashmir, in recognition of his contribution to the realm of science and research. He dwelt at length on the remarkable contribution made by Prof. Rao as a researcher and planner in the field of chemistry and higher education within the country and abroad. “I hope that many of the faculty members and students would feel inspired by his unstinted commitment to science and quality of work that he carried out over the years,” he stated. Highlighting the role of Universities and other institutes of Higher Studies in developing ‘knowledge temper’ amongst aspiring students, Mufti Sayeed said he cherishes the dream of making J&K the knowledge capital of the country. “J&K should be a place where people from the rest of the country, and even outside, will feel privileged to come for acquiring knowledge,” he said and insisted on targeting primary education first for developing scientific temper amongst the growing young minds of children. The Chief Minister said that creating a responsible community is a task which cannot be only accomplished by the Government. It needs to begin at the primary school level. He said no matter how big the seat of higher learning will be, it is ultimately the craving within the students that counts in making them exhibit their talent. He said his Government will take a cue from IT-enabled Bangalore to lay a strong foundation for knowledge movement in the State. |

The controversy around Nestle's Maggi noodles has caused panic throughout the nation and it doesn't look like it will die down any time soon.
After the initial test results by Uttar Pradesh Department of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) showed harmful levels of monosodium glutamate (MSG) and lead in Maggi, various states across India and even Bangladesh conducted tests on Maggi to find out whether the food product is safe or not.
The controversy around Maggi has led to tests being conducted across the country.
The entire controversy began when the UP FDA last month asked Nestle India to withdraw a batch of Maggi noodles "which were manufactured in February 2014" after it found high levels of added MSG, a taste enhancer, in the noodles and lead beyond permissible limits.
