altJPNN |New Delhi|  Former finance minister P Chidambaram said on Saturday the Congress party is legitimately entitled to take credit for the revival of the economy in the April-June 2014 quarter as the UPA government was in charge until May 26.Data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) on Friday showed the economy grew much better than expected at 5.7% in the April-June quarter, the fastest expansion in nine quarters, helping lift the mood after two years of sub-5% growth "A number of steps were taken by the UPA government to revive manufacturing (reduction of excise duty), electricity (coal linkages) and mining. Besides, a number of reforms were undertaken in the financial services sector. According to the CSO, these are the lead performing sectors of the economy," Chidambaram said in a statement.Finance minister Arun Jaitley was asked to comment on Chidambaram's comment taking credit for the economic recovery at the news conference on Saturday to provide a status report of the economy's performance in the first 100 days of the Narendra Modi administration."Since we have better figures every Indian is entitled to smile," Jaitley said with a smile.TNN
