New Delhi, which already has earned the distinction of being one of the most vulnerable places for women, is again in the news for all the wrong reasons. There were 3 gruesome incidents of rape and abduction in less than 24 hours in the National Capital Region. 3 girls were kidnapped out of which 2 were raped and the 3rd girl is still missing.The three separate incidents occurred on Feb 9, 2012 and all of these were reported within hours of their occurrence. In the first incident the victim is a minor while in the second case the accused was a friend of the victim’s relative.In the first incident, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly abducted in a car from Jyoti Nagar by three men and then raped by one of them who himself is a minor. He committed this crime as an act of revenge because the girl had turned down his proposal of friendship. This incident came into notice after the victim went to the police station for lodging a complaint, despite the repeated threats by Gaurav (30), Harish (21) and the minor boy, who were all involved in this heinous crime. The class 8 student had gone to the market when these three people abducted her and took her to Gaurav’s room where she was sexually assaulted by

the minor boy. She told that the other two boys did not sexually harass her. Afterwards she was taken to Guru Tegh Bahadur hospital where the rape was confirmed by the doctors. Later on, a search team was sent to raid Gaurav’s room  but they could not trace the youths. They were later caught late in the night and then taken into custody. In another case, a 17-year-old girl was kidnapped from Kanjhawla by two men who sexually abused her for hours in a moving car around Delhi.

Two persons Amit and Manoj were arrested in connection with the case. Amit happened to be a friend of the victim's relative and she had met him on earlier occasions.According to police, she was kidnapped by these two men who later raped her in a moving car. They dumped her in Kanjhawla after which she went home and narrated the incident to her family. The matter was reported to the police and the accused were apprehended on the basis of the victim’s statement.In the third case, a 17-year-old girl was kidnapped by two unidentified men from the Chawla area while she was returning home from her workplace in Gurgaon at around 9:30 pm. She is yet to be found. 

The victim works in a private firm in Gurgaon and was returning home with her friends when the youths came in a car and kidnapped her. Her friends tried to defend her but were assaulted and the accused took the girl forcibly in their car. A senior police official said they were yet to trace the girl and the kidnappers.Furious over the incident, locals protested near the police station and even blocked traffic in the area during the day.
